Sort of retro, getting back to RSS used for feeds of news, but a nice mix and re-play is being offered at DailyRSS which is serving up news feeds from multiple sources and in categories: In addition to just the news, there are weather images and feeds plus a photo news feed; it uses some sort of scroller to thumb through news photos on the main page. It’s being powered, I believe, by the MagpieRSS parser. The little icons listed on their What is RSS? page are remarkably similar to the one we posted Fuss About RSS wiki hoisted back in 2002? Oh well, its a rip, mix world.

Learning Spaces Redux
Rising like a bullet up the record charts of Instructional Technology Issues this year is Learning Space Design, with a lot of good stuff coming out of the EDUCAUSE ELI initiative and the July/September 2005 issue of EDUCAUSE Review. It’s timely here at Maricopa, having last year passed a very large bond election for major construction at our 10 colleges, which was a factor in our having hosted our own Ocotillo Learning Spaces Day here recently, September 16. It is the challenge of creating physical structures that may last 30 years, when the activities, tools, that are used within have a much shorter frequency of change. Will we build buildings like we did in the 1990s? On September 16, we had about 120 folks from teams sent by our 10 colleges have a full day’s worth of focus on the topic. It was very well received, appreciated. Sp part of [...]
New Blog Disclaimer
flickr foto You Have Been Warned!available on my flickr I was too scard to take a photo of this fearsome fish. This hand made sign from a local aquarium (Acuario Cet-Mar) in Puerta Peñasco, Mexico, might be part of a new WordPress theme that may be applied here ;-) My friends told me stories of some tourist fool previously who disregarded the sign and found out how much the dog snapper fish does bite. It really was not easy to get a good picture, but the big fish with the bad reputation has some sad puppy eyes. The weekend in Mexico was just what the doctor ordered, lots of sun, R&R, and no conputers or interent. The beach, ocean kayaking, the cervezas, and jumbo shrimp for every meal were highlights, not to mention the view parasailing. See the rest of the flickr-ed evidence.
Google Mapped Zip Codes
Will the marriage of Google maps top other data forms ever stop? I hope not… Click for a Zip Code Picture overlays the boundary of a US zip code on a Google Map… here is a snapshot of the zip where I grew up: Keep the cool stuff coming… A tip of the blog hat to ResearchBuzz…
Adios
I am going offline for a few days to hibernate and do nothing computer related in Puerto Penasco or how us gringos say it, “Rocky Point”, returning Monday, Sept 26. Adios! Mucho gusto!
avDaveMail
This is ordinary inter-campus mail: Functional, yes, but not all that exciting… Now this is something sent by avDAVE, the legendary media dude at Estrella Mountain Community College: Now that jumps out of your box! Thanks Dave for getting me the audio recordings!
Maricopa ePort 101 (presentation in a wiki in an eport)
This afternoon I am doing an hand-on workshop on our Maricopa ePortfolio tool for the participants in our Maricopa Faculty Internship program. We have had some program like this for a few years where a year’s full of experiences, projects, mentoring is supposedly captured in a one page Word document report. I’ve been applying pressure for some time, that we ought to have intern / fellowship programs either blog, eport, or journal somehow along the way, as the old saw goes– the journey being more important and interesting that just the final destination. It’s like a vacation road trip across Australia, and the only memorabilia you save is the brochure from the tour bus. Anyhow, we have created eport accounts for all the interns and are asking them to use it to post their resume, their materials developed as they move through the program, but most importantly, use the blog [...]
Who Thinks of Time in “Business Days?”
I think someone slipped a red pill in my cheerios… I don’t know about you, but the unit of time “business days” has as much meaning as if you said to me, “I will have that ready for you in about 67hdHysuR%dsa87s*jkL days. I took my dead iBook to the Apple Store for repair on September 9. The “genius” told me it would be ready in “5-7 business days”.. something a interpreted in “about a week”. I let 9 days go by (I really need it back without a recent enough Quicken back up). I went to the Apple support site and followed the link for “check my repair status”. This looked reasonable as I had a repair number on my receipt. The instructions read: A case number or dispatch id is required in addition to your zip/postal code or Serial Number. If you provided your full (5+4) zip when [...]
82 Bloggers Nearby? FeedMap
I read a feed, clicked a link, clicked another, and another, and lost my path, but here I am at FeedMap: FeedMap = Blogs + Maps Using FeedMap you can geo-code your blog, browse already geo-coded blogs and search for blogs. Once geo-coded, you can get your own BlogMap location using a simple url that allows you to network with your local bloggers and much more! In theory, it generates a dynamic map with other geo-located bloggers nearby, plus creates an OPML file, brings you coffee, etc. I monkeyed around enough to get my own…
Finding Pod/Vidcasts in Loomia (Ups and Downs of Tags)
Interesting site in a quick flyby: Loomia is a search and tag site for audio and video “casts”: As more and more audio and video makes their way to the Internet, it has become increasingly difficult to find things that you like. Loomia is a podcast and videocast search engine plus much more. Our goal is to help you discover, share, and manage things of interest to you. We make use of the likes and dislikes of an ever-increasing community to filter through thousands of channels to help you find good stuff. It’s got tags, free personal accounts, most popular listings… good stuff. Since my blue pill is still active, I will leave it to the reader to think about what happens when anyone can tag something as “Education” A tip of the blog hat to Alec Couros, just swiped from his blog feed.
