Via David Weinberger’s blog, came a reference to a time eating web site. Blufr (“bruising your ego one blff at a time”) is more or less a true or false game at various “facts” form Answers.com– the addictive hook is tat each “way” / “no way” right answer bumps you points, you can post links to the content to various bookmark services, and more in the bucket of Web X.0-is add-ons. Of course, you can get a high score just by guessing (50% chance of being right in any standard-ized test), but still, with each answer, comes, “just one more…. just one more…” And they even have this hook of offering a cut and paste snippet to embed a hook into any blog: Powered by Answers.com: free online dictionary and more And I could swear I saw Bryan Alexander‘s photo randomly appear in the top left. And speaking of this, [...]

When There’s No About in the About
From the dark ages of building web resource collections, I have always stressed the importance of having 1-2 sentences to describe what a web site is about– other wise, what you end with is a linkatorium, a laundry list of URLs or site titles and no context. And this is that is key for me, in the light age, when I tag something for my del.icio.us collection, I want that snippet that describes a site. And it is even better if it is a chunk of text I can highlight, since when I use my bookmark tool (the one my marklet maker not in the one del.icio.us hands out), that chunk of text goes into my notes field. It’s gotta be short and sweet, since del.icio.us truncates at (??) 256 characters?? But woe is my blood pressure, when I cannot find that chunk of text on the front page, must [...]
Hold the Truck! Mouse Pleads for Mercy
How is that for Apple listening? A day after I threaten to drive my GMC truck over a blue toothless mouse, the Mac OS 10.4.7 update contains an update to improve bluetooth communication with mouse devices! So far so good, as the mouse has been able to have activated 100% of the time (about 7 connections on the OSX side and 2 on the XP side of my MacBookPro). It does lose its connection still if it is not tickled every ow and then. And even better, you can now rig your trackpad settings so a two finger tap and click act like a right mouse click (found at mac OSX Hints). inside System Preferences, go to Keyboard and Mouse, and then Trackpad settings. Enable the checkbox for tap trackpad using two fingers for secondary click. Enabling Use Two fingers for scroll is also handy. I’m curious to see if [...]
