There's a widget that displays a random image from my iPhoto library every time I fire up Dashboard. It's so awesome to be reminded of things long forgotten, or barely remembered. It's surprising how much detail I can recall from a simple photo reminder. I can usually remember where I took it, what was happening before/after/during, who was there, who was I with, key related events, etc... I’ve been doing something similar, using MacOSX’ Dashboard.
