Count me among the cranky ones. I want an iPhone without AT&T. I even WON an iPhone at a conference last week. Lucky me. Without AT&T signal, it’s not really an iPhone, is it? At least I can spend my gift card on other cool stuff at the Apple store. Still, I long for the day I can get an iPhone without AT&T.

I’ll gladly take up snark phaser arms with you! I have been boasting and priming my husband up for our iPhone purchase since the announcement – not nearly the mac fan I am, it took some work. To my delight on Tuesday he dug in and did some research and decided today would be the day we would get iPhones! We started at the Biltmore Apple Store and you know what happened from there. I tactfully fought the “switch carrier for the iphone” battle for months to finally win and Apple’s arrogance ruined it! Like you my hubby will hold off now on principle and in the world of mobile carriers where one spouse goes the other must follow. Curse you Apple!

Yeah, I’ve done that. But I want the iPhone for my travel- the iTouch is great but anything on the net is dependent on getting wireless access.

Let me be clear- I want the iPhone. I’m just cranky.

If don’t really need an iPhone, and you just want to try all the shiny cool apps, why not get the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for your iPod touch which will give you access to the Apps Store?

@Coop- I’d have to be able to *buy* one to jail break it ;-) Its a thought. Alltel just merged with Verizon, they are swallowing TMobile too? Can they save room to take in AT&T,

@D’Arcy- Make more. Yeah, I was having fun spraying everyone, but its AT&T I aim the phasers at. I dont even need 3G coverage here; at home I’d use wireless, but AT&T does not even have enough signal for make *phone calls* when other providers have strong signals. That is s****. And an iPhone w/oa phone is…. the iPod Touch I already own.

it’s not so much shooing people away out of elite snobbery – they do need to actually MAKE the phones. and they haven’t made enough of them. not sure I’d blame Czar Jobs on the lack of 3G coverage in Strawberry either… a 3G Android device would lack coverage from your home as well.

Why don’t you try a jail broken iPhone on Tmobile? Do they have service up there. @clintus on Twitter has one and says he has no problems what so ever. Plus I hear rumor that Tmobile and Altell might merge. You won’t even have to move providers.
