@urbie: Hey, nice to hear from ya! No, I’ve not done that stretch but bet one of these days I might be driving to/from Texas. I once did do the trans-Nevada Hghway 50, the “loneliest road in America” and it lived up to its name. It was the big massive western skies that lured me out here from the east coast (never to return).

Way cool! I like going off road and seeing what can’t easily be seen from the highway. Have you been through I-10 from Lordsburg, NM to Deming? It’s not just wide open and desolate: It’s mostly flat and far reaching, all the way to the horizon. The best part: you can see the curvature of the earth.
