Alan, I aspire to have your freedom and opportunities! Wow! (yes, I also want to know what happens if the horses are not there!)
I will follow your adventures in Iceland from the sunnier Middle east, Qatar. Have a great time!

Your post is moving, Alan. In the sense that it is really impressive how one can live with (almost) no boundaries and live happy everafter! I am an expatriate and for so long, before the Internet, longed for what you're telling about: living in two sites at the same time. Keep on with your good work!

Looks like a great place to be for a while. Thank you for sharing these details. Judging from the pictures, I'd really like to know the floor plan, as I am always looking for that dream house to build on the dream land one day.

The gigapan reminds me of what I love so much about County Mayo, Ireland--the stark sweep of the land and immense sky. This looks like a place where the imagination can roam.

And the house! Wow! The "pot"--amazing. When I was in Northern Sweden a couple of early springs ago, I loved the outdoorsy-ness of their lives even in the dark & cold--the suanas helped, too. Something to be said about throwing oneself into that world for a spell. Of course, if the elections go badly on Tuesday, you might well find many of us at your doorstep. ;-)

What a wonderful opportunity! Hope you will keep posting about your experiences. We only dream of snow and ice although our closest land mass is Antarctica. That thermal pool looks so inviting!

See if you can find the real skyr while you are there, the kind that comes out of a tub in a blob and is wrapped in paper, not the new kind that's really yogurt. I lived in Iceland at 16 (Keflavik) and went to school in a Quonset hut; Skinna looks just like my dog Husky, who came back to the US with us. I miss Iceland and Husky, and I wish I had some real skyr, many years later. If you find it and bring it back to Strawberry I will drive there and pick it up in person! :-)

That is one sweet setup. Including the picture of the geothermal tub at the end of the post was a nice touch.

Enjoy your time there -- it looks like an amazing place to spend the month.

I heard that the Vikings named Iceland and Greenland to throw off people who wanted to muscle in on their fishing grounds. Iceland was nice and green, and Greenland was full of ice.
