Hi Clay,

Nice to see you resurface. The coolest stuff usually takes more effort ;-)

Doug Belshaw did a rather comprehensive write up of the manual process I use
http://dougbelshaw.com/blog/2009/07/07/howto-present-using-cooliris-the-basics/

But if you are simply looking for a way to do a single gallery, once you create a cooliris account (go into the CoolIris environment in your browser and look for the Preferences icon in lower right). Probably the easiest way to do a mix of items like you describe is to use the "Favorites" button to collect the media you want to share. Then you can be able to display it.... but no easy way to share them all via a URL. You can pick through your favorites, and share via email.

Downside of favorites is that the order of things is th eorde rin which you favorite them.

The other way is to organize your content in YouTube as a playlist or set of tagged videos, as well as putting your flickr images in a place where you can view them as a tag set or a regular set or the new fangled gallery. The idea of CoolIris is that from the web view, you can flick on CoolIris, and it represents the same media as a CoolIris wall.

But the most flexible in terms of mixing content is to get down in the code!

Alan, I've been so deeply buried in the move to Singapore and the return to school(iness)-teaching since August that I'm only now getting above ground.

I did, though, see your preso and also the Cooliris version AND the blog (wiki?) version(s?), all of which were stunning -- so stunning, in fact, that I offered to do a CoolIris gallery of photos and videos 20 students will take of southern India on a culture visit chaperoned by me and another teacher in February. (This, by the way, is among my Top Five Clunkiest Sentences Ever. Apologies.)

But now that I've skimmed the process, it seems daunting for a non-techy guy like me. Isn't it possible to maybe favorite some YouTube vids, e.g., and feature only those favorites (or maybe ones tagged or on a playlist or channel) on CoolIris?

Hope you can take a sec to answer.

Again, the idea and the aesthetics were just beautiful. Congrats.

Hi Alan: I blogged this, mainly the Ustream presentation but also included links to your "how-to" and to the repository of all the stories. I appreciate how you are open about your process. My little story: I've been posting my photos on Flickr for a while now, mainly to share with family, and I had one picture taken with my phone camera (i.e. not very good) included in an online travel guide. Just a pleasant little surprise that anyone outside of family would like my picture. I took it to show my kids where I was staying when I interviewed for a job at Boston U. Here it is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/12019105@N08/2907398336/

You continue to inspire and lead the way with innovative and yet powerfully simple ideas. I'll warn you right now, I likely be using/stealing your ideas in some form in the days to come. Maybe I'll just include a disclaimer on my blog and all presentations......"this presentation/idea is likely inspired by Alan Levine."

I really am crushed I didn't get to see this live. Thank goodness it's archived. I can't wait to watch it.

This is truly an epic post about an epic project. A meta-amazing meta-story that blogs the walk. A gobsmacking blog-walking openly amazing tale. On this amazing journey of openness, together we'll ride....

Damn. That's impressive and I love both the idea and how you documented it.

I hope I didn't step on your toes by posting the link etc. the other day. I figured since it was flying around on twitter post presentation it was now fair game. If not, my most sincere apologies.

Al always, great work and thanks for inspiring me.
