Boone is reworking Buddypress docs so that they will not have to be connected to groups. An individual will be able to create a doc then share it for editing and publish in a variety of ways (a codex for example within the BP network). BP docs use the TinyMCE editor which WP users are very familiar with, so a lot less to worry about compared to Wiki syntax.

Heavily themed, but Mediawiki. An old version, to boot (1.15.something). But even that is a bit too geeky for non geeks (but their theme is way better than the stock wikipedia mediawiki theme…)
