Soul Patch Snow Man

Twas a fun day at the top of the Rim (7400 feet) for snow play near Wildcat Springs trail head. Although it was sunny and 65 degrees in Strawberry, there was still a good 8-10 inches of white stuff at 1900 feet higher. What could be more fun than anthropomorphizing snow.

I glanced out the front window today and noticed a grey animal in my yard, and it was not a local dog! That shape and snout of a javelina is hard to miss, and after fumbling to get my telephoto lens on, I got a few good pics from my porch. We call 'em pigs but they are actually in the deer family. That's hard to believe looking at that snout!

According to my notes, this was at one time a grocery store (one of the few buildings in Jerome that seemed not to be a former brothel ;-); now there is a glass blowing art studio inside of the bottom portion.

Find a cherished print and compose it in a larger scene. #ds224 This photo of my grandmother was done the old way iun 1986- I shot the scene, developed the film, and made the print with smelly chemicals. Granny passed away in 2002, at an estimated age of 97 (her birthdate was fuzzy), and I still have some more editing work to expand the set of stories I have from here recorded in audio from in 1994 cogdogblog.com/2009/07/14/grannys-stories/ The wooden chess pieces belonged to *her* father, David Gottfried, who was a chess champion back in the 1920s or so. I adored my grandmother as a kid, she always made me feel the most special person in the universe, and to me, as a little pawn, she was a Queen indeed.

David Jakes keeps kidding me about by spaghetti salsa mixup-- but this is the real deal, made with tomatoes, garlic, serrano, and jalapeño peppers grown in my garden. Bought from the store was cilantro (mine bolted early and never grew back) and onions (not worth the effort). I also added a bit of fresh yellow squash for color. I like mine chunky! and spicy!

@dailyshoot 2010/12/02: Make a photo today that features a hand in a creative way. #ds382 Mom really hates what time has done to her hands, 80+ years does take its toll. I can allways remember her hands as being skinny and with prominent veins, which she always said was all the work she did. The hands age, the pages turn, but the ring stays the same.

For six word story. ------------------------- longer version --------------------- I left Phoenix last night after dinner with friends for the two hour drive to home in Strawberry, AZ. On the north side of Payson were flashing lights, and a copy told me that highway 87 was closed due to a multiple fatality accident, and no idea when it would open. (The shortest detour might be 2.5 hours or more). I decided to spend my time first picking up groceries at Safeway, that took care of 30 minutes, so I spent the rest of my time at the Mazatzal Casino. The investment plan was no more than $40. This is a small casino, slots only. The first machine, poker, was hot. I put in $20, drew 4 10s on the first hand, and second hand was a straight before the draw. I hovered around this mark. It trailed off and I cashed out with $20. Not losing is good. The next two $1 slots just sucked my money dry. Down to zero. I put a twenty in my favorite bank of progressive slots (had to wait til there was a free chair). It was clicking, I was up $16 when my girlfriend called, and I took a break to talk to her. An hour was gone by, and the online info said the highway was still closed. I returned to me favorite machines, but no one was giving up a seat. I tried another new set of progressives in a different area with my $36. I went up a bitm down a bit to maybe $27, then hot something that set the machine off, and it hit a $50+ win. I was over $80. Someone prudent would have stopped. I told myself- cash out at $70. Then $60. Then I figure, I put in $40, so at least walk out with $50. Which I did. Above is my net. 2.5 hours later, the road was free, and now I can deposit this in my Swiss bank account.
