Howdy web partners. Sad to say, the domain renewal reaper came a’ knocking, and I let my old friend the 106tricks.net go off to the graveyard.

That there web site was spun up with great dreamin’ for a Western Movie Flavored DS106 (aka #Western106) as a pardnership with Bill Genereaux for a class at K-State University class. Ole Bill was a good ride along for spinnin’ ideas and he set up the whole deal.

I forget the why and the hows but thats but legend, an’ folks whisper that a trail boss Dean pulled the rug under ole Bill’s boots.

Operatin’ like an outlaw, the Man with No Course, I tried to keep the outfit movin. Good creatin’ folks like Hatchet Bill Conaway and Sandy Jensen Brown Jensen Brown, smooth croonin’ dogtrax, and that squirrley lil creepy doll Tina played along, but 106tricks.net stopped and rusted in the desert.

With one day short of Hover upping the domain, I cut 106tricks.net loose and now all the links sadly go to some domain sale shop. But as I am proudly a Reclaimer so I hovered up the WordPress site as static HTML archive using the venerable SiteSucker MacOS app and hoisted it amongst my pile of buried dog bones (an archive!), so the memories are at least enshrined at https://bones.cogdogblog.com/106tricks/

SiteSucker puts all the files inside a 106tricks.net folder, reachable by its own index.html home, but it also grabs a few key exernal files, like remote javascript, a few images, that end up sitting along side that. So I upload the whole shebang to by bones.cogdoblog.com directory, and slip into the top level an index.php file that works as a redirect.

<?php header("Location: 106tricks.net/index.html"); ?>

This makes it so requests to https://bones.cogdogblog.com/106tricks/ go to the actual file https://bones.cogdogblog.com/106tricks/106tricks.net/index.html

Directory structure for my WordPress archive

Oh did I have fun with all the remixes and makin’ movies with Bill. As a throwback, the trailer for “The Big 106ie” where the dude tries to tie the whole course together.

Some say the Man With No Course is still out there seekin’ to kindle up the gang, heck he’s so dead he’s still on twitter.

  1. Count me as one of the folks that signed on, signed up to jump in as a remote open participant. What coulda been. I will admit I was a little intimidated by the expected work load, variety of assignments that were in the queue. Not sayin’ I was relieved or felt like I dodged a bullet. But more wondering what things might’ve come out of that.
