This is about it for the blogging wrap-up if it ever does wrap, for the Reclaim Open conference experience- thanks a million trees to Reclaim Hosting for busting the typical conference format out of its rigid box. Indeed a first of firsts, AGAIN.
Each day I try to walk our land and take note of the trees Cori and I have planted the last 4 years of our outdoor rewilding project. In the vein of learning by doing, trying and sometimes failing, last year we had maybe the most success with tree planting. Maybe it was the atypical early summer rain. Who knows for sure?
I try to send Cori regular photos what I call our “Fine Pines” (tagged flickrwise) like that one atop the page -okay some techno cheat, the original photo was portrait orientation. I used PhotoShop generative exapand to go wide, it seems to have added a tree. Oh well, that’s a symbol of hope?
My grand ambitions for my blog-a-thon entry rather exceeded what I spat out, but it stands as something. It was way long, and I know folks appreciated the photos and intent. I did not exactly play out the metaphors well for rewilding the web.
I later added even more to the big mulch pile of a post, specifically a collection of resources I had been accumulating since June- especially noteworthy being Rewilding Magazine, a journal of real efforts around the world. And on the web side, a key influence always for me, Clive Thompson has written on strategies for Rewilding Your Attention plus a followup of more methods.
I had also been, related to my other session, tagging stuff all along on Pinboard as rewildingweb (and more since, cause I do this all the time). I have the feed embedded in the ever growing post.
And then, because later Cori and I looked at one of our trail cameras and spotted recent visitors of fox, coyote, deer, and rabbits, as an afterward I added the point of another thing we never do that the previous owners did a lot– shoot guns. Not doing that has quite a positive effect on the wildlife! Plus I had forgetten about the proliferation of bees we have seen with putting out many more flowers and wildflowers.
Anyhow, the conference is over, the blogging is done, pack it all away.
I am still out there, rewilding the land. And also, where possible, the web too.
You?
