Spam for breakfast, spam, for lunch, servings of spam keep coming at all times. Yummy, yummy spam. And it is so personal and it speaks to me:

How are you? I understand that you are interested in discussing practice opportunities. I represent an outstanding practice opportunity in a major city on the East Coast. This is to join one of the top hospitals in the state and U.S., have an academic appointment, practice in a wonderful, collegial environment and live in one of the top cities in the U.S. If this would be of interest, please give me a call to 1-888-xxx-xxxxx and I will be happy to discuss it with you.
While it is nice to not to be offered to enlarge/shrink body parts I am or may not have, I must say that…. too much spam is giving me gas.
I filter, ignore, laugh, and move on, but it is a huge problem in our system as we have some stone age email system that does almost nothing pro-active on spam prevention. We have distribution lists that are open to messages from outside sources, and are actively used to spam our employees. Only on sending some complaints up the IT food chain do I learn that there is a secret, formal request one can make to limit sending of messages to members of a system list to only… members of that list. How is that not seen as a significant flaw?
Supposedly, some new, big badass spam defense system is being ordered/planned, but details are vague to say the least. In the meantime, we have faculty and staff opting to not read any email, or deleting en masse, unplugging themselves from the communication with the rest of our system.
Our IT people could be seen as heroes if they clamped down the lid tightly on spam, and if they were very clear and public about the plans.
Oi, the doctor has gas.
Oye, indeed.
Our University rolled out the New Anti-Spam Targeted Interface a few weeks ago. Now instead of just clearing the spam out of my inbox, I have to clear the spam out of my inbox and then go over to NASTI and find my real email using their stupid 10-items at a time interface.
I’ve changed my main address to be outside the box because I’m just tired of having “solutions” just given to me by IT.
Love the NASTI acronym 😉
