Just by publishing this gack, the Chronicle of Higher Education shows its speaks with an accent of digital immigrants.

“So Dr. Brontosaurus, it is 10 minutes before the end of the Jurassic Period, what are you going to do?”

“Nothing… why should I?.”

    Unbelievable. Someone needs to hit Ivan Tribble with a cluetrain. Oh, and what’s up with an academic hiding behind a pseudonym? Freaking coward.

    What Ivan didn’t mention was that the hiring committee should have expressed relief at being able to know incompatible applications before hiring them - something that was apparently impossible for them before blogging.

    How many people get jobs because of blogging? I’d guess it’s far more than the number that are passed over because of blogging. I don’t think anyone has really missed out on a job because of a blog - they missed out because they were incompatible, and the blog just made that discovery more efficient. Same as the “fired for blogging” meme that went around a few months ago…
