Okay, I know there are a lot of blogs. And it seems we are still at an inflection point, so soon there are going to be A LOT OF BLOGS.
The long tail of blog is growing longer by the second. Yee-hah! Ride the tail!
It just struck me as I was counting down with Will as he heads off for new horizons, with a first jump off at ScotEduBlogs, a bloggers meet up over in Scotland.
Just browsing the list of towns, and people who blog there, my look at the long list of blogs located in Argyll and Bute just made me smile! It’s rich with fascinating topics… There is Blethers, where you can read about a “retired English teacher keeps her brain alive”. How about the Interactive Chatting Teddies— news and stories as Campbell bear and Spencer bear travel. Where are they going next? Chris and kids are blogging their Progress Report, where an English tutor and experts contribute to students’ peer assessment. Wonder how that is progressing?
Or see Port Ellen Tablet, blogs by teachers try out tablet PC technology in this primary school. The Islay High School Ecuador Trip has students sharing about their trip to Ecuador and a new trip to Malawi is in the works.
Check out the Book Reviews from Port Ellen– where the Port Ellen Primary School and Port Ellen Book Group are working together to create book reviews in preparation for a book festival. And over at Marlyn’s Blog, follow the “the life and times of an elderly educationalist in a technological age.”
This is but one little sampling of one wiki of one organization from one country… and it is bursting at the seams with people doing their own web publishing. It’s not much to marvel at anymore, and then again it is. From my first click in a web browser back in 1993, I felt a big potential, but never really imagined we would leap form the sea of home grown hand whittled HTML pages by the intrepid few, to the sea of writing, reflecting, and expression that is… beautiful to read and look at…. well, it is just getting started.
Will, you will be a busy guy, go forth in the world!
Bit of a novice in all of this. Had to learn for my class, basically. Glad you picked Argyll to look at on the wiki. I am going to hear Will next week in Edinburgh. Looking forward to it. My 7 year olds are hooked on their talking teds blog. He’s going to be talking about RSS in one seminar….so ….off to learn!
