Bryan Alexander’s Amazing Story of Openness

In preparation for a presentation I will do June 2 for the ETUG meeting in Nelson BC, I have been collecting a new series of "Amazing Stories". On my recent trip to the east coast, I snagged a series of new ones from friends and colleagues I visited. And this will be a dress rehearsal for ones I hope to get when my Road Odyssey begins in mid June.

This one was filmed (on my iPhone 4) at the mountain home of Bryan Alexander near Ripton, Vermont. The scene is very fitting for Bryan's interests. And he obliged my request to pose with his iconic axe (though I did not expect him to swing it so naturally while talking).

In his story Bryan relates his experiences with his earlier (and ongoing) experiences in doing a form of storytelling via a blog, in Dracula Blogged, the events of Bram Stoker's classic novel are played out in the same time sequence as they occur in the story. In a blog form, this serializes it, and also creates the same sense of timing, creating expectation for what comes next. And, as Bryan notes, it opens up the story for people to participate in by commenting.

My friend.–Welcome to the Carpathians. I am anxiously expecting you. Sleep well tonight. At three tomorrow the diligence will start for Bukovina; a place on it is kept for you. At the Borgo Pass my carriage will await you and will bring you to me. I trust that your journey from London has been a happy one, and that you will enjoy your stay in my beautiful land.– Your friend, Dracula.

An exciting new feature to the mix is an annotated Google Map showing locations and events in the story

You will find the full set of stories after the ETUG conference at http://cogdogblog.com/stuff/etug11 but I will be posting a few as teasers in advance. Anyone I see in the next few weeks (Northern Voice and the Maricopa Tech Conference) can expect to be cornered by me and my camera.

I am super pleased with the quality of video from my iPhone 4, though I need to consider a tripod holder and one I did with my Canon DSLR. I do not see a need to invest in a dedicated video recorder at this time.
