And today I felt a rush that the clever editors of the New York Times were big fans of CogDogBlog. It had to be, as I was featured apparently in today’s Connections game (of which I have never seen nor will as its for subscribers). The first clue came in a Mastodon call out from Tom Woodward:

Today's connections is @cogdog themed

Cog, blog, dog are highlighted in a the NYT's connection puzzle.

Woah, the NYT made their puzzle about me? I had that rush of Navin R. Johnson’s phone book feeling

Then I heard about it from Charlotte from NYC, and the big confirmation when my sister Harriet texted me.

You’re in the Connections game today!

She shared the game screen:

Connections game where words in the top left inclide Cog dog and blog

The connection is obvious! The best blog is Cog Dog Blog Hog Frog Smog? Or is it one of the distractors as described by game creator Wyna Liu.

Actually I have no clue how the game is played except from guessing you have to move them onto lines where four words have something in common. Harriet shared the answer (well I am spoiling it) which clearly indicates puzzle maker (and jewelry maker as I found) Wyna Liu is not an active reader. Or maybe is?

Ah the Connections of Cog Dog Blog span the categories, or turn out to be represented as ToothedWheelsPortmanteauxBull____

So close, yet still so unfamous I happily remain.

But thanks to those who saw me quickly as a connection. I am more proud to be the wrong answer.

An early 90s builder of web stuff and blogging Alan Levine barks at CogDogBlog.com on web storytelling (#ds106 #4life), photography, bending WordPress, and serendipity in the infinite internet river. He thinks it's weird to write about himself in the third person. And he is 100% into the Fediverse (or tells himself so) Tooting as @cogdog@cosocial.ca

  1. You don’t have to be a subscriber to play the once daily game; only if you want access to play their ‘unlimited’ play version.
