I am among the many afflicted by the ds1o6 fever of animated GIFs.
Riddle me this; why oh why, Grand Oracle of Google, can one actually upload an ainamted GIF to Google Drive but not be allowed to use it?
Here is an animated GIF I made from Pulp Fiction that is uploaded and animates nicely in a my Google Drive.
It animates.
Yet.
In editing something in the Drive I can select it fine:
but try putting it in a Google Doc
or a presentation
Unsupported format.
If I check out the help docs, I get

Inserted images must be in .PNG, .JPEG or .GIF (no animated GIFs) file formats
No reason.
Just no.
Why Google can not Thou alloweth thine GIFs to animate?

I was not able to find any new info on your blog regarding google sites and animated gifs, so I thought I’d share in case you were still trying to work it out.
Upload the animated .gif to Google Drive, create a new Google Drawing, insert the .gif image. Then on your site, insert ‘Drawing’.
Thanks! It looks like they changed their tools, because you can actually upload in any document, presentation via the upload image. Google woke up, yay
FYI, It seems like this may be a slow rollout because i’m still getting the unsupported format error.
Wow, thats interesting. I guess thats the Google way, and why its not in their help docs yet.
