These posts document experiments in hacking and tweaking Wordpress; I hardly call myself expert, but I do like to tinker under the hood. If there is something I can do for you, bark my way or visit me at http://cogdog.it
Sometimes you choose a member for the front line of your WordPress site that just ends up not playing well. As alluded to in Swapping Out Sputtering SPLOT Plugins a plugin I suggested for the two calling card themes I developed this year, WP-Dimension and WP-Big Picture turned out to be a bad player. I […]
Actually my title and featured image went a little off track. This is not about one powerful CSS feature… it’s all of them. Now I know that most people run shrieking at the sight of HTML, and me talking about CSS just ends up sounding like this. And I am far from being a CSS […]
When I embed a tweet in my post, that’s all I want. But WordPress, and the Twitter API, wants to give me more. I don’t have to accept that. What am I blabbering about now? Well in a recent post where I am talking about using WordPress to publish your own versions of the soon […]
I have grand SPLOT plans for the holidays. Huh? I hope to spend some time cleaning up a number of relatively minor issues with existing SPLOTs, maybe add a new one or two (I did say grand), update the Instant SPLOT recipes (and test them out more to troubleshoot some reported issues). It’s not too […]
Look out 2018, SPLOTs are gonna be in ya. I’ve had a great twitter conversation with Daniel Villar at Coventry University’s Disruptive Media Learning Lab where he has been working on their Domain of One’s Own efforts as coventry.domains. It appears he has a fondness for SPLOTs too. He put the Image Collector one to […]
In which I detail obscure WordPress tinkering and celebrate doing what happens with a small amount of understanding… Despite the expected mockery of some harsh critics I’ve been really happy with the change over in August to this newest outer dressing on this blog (do you keep your own history? It’s a good practice if […]
One day, future educational technologist yearlings will gaze up in earnest to their parental units, and say, “Mommy, Daddy, will you tell me the origin of SPLOT story again?” Imagination at work. It’s been beyond rewarding to see the results of an idea I likely initially laughed at over a beer in Kamloops spread and […]
While it is possible to mash potatoes with my 1998 Ford F-150, I really would not compare it as a utensil to my plastic kitchen masher. It’s quite capable of mashing potatoes but is really meant for more. Obviously. I read Ryan Cordell’s Profhacker column yesterday, Build a Speedy, Dynamic Class Website Using Markdown, RStudio, […]
In recent work on ushering people into a Domain of Their Own I’ve been looking for ways to have them conceptualize their domain as more than one site or blog, as more like a plot of land. For the eCampus Ontario Extend workshops we emphasized putting some kind of calling card or simple front gate […]
Plus hair tearing. Cussing. Going away from it and getting sleep. And some things you don’t learn from an Hour of Code. There is not heaps of science in my computing. I got a (polite) email request for help from Brian Lamb. He was seeing (and confirmed) error reports from the TRU Writer SPLOT, on […]
