Good golly, 2008 is not even 24 hours in the bag, and I am blogging about spammers. You can certainly see something I did not put on my resolution list (which, in fact, is another one of those zero item lists).
Spotting spam sometimes takes some detection, but other times its a simple matter of:
* is the comment relevant to the blog post subject? I wrote the darn thing, so I can sure tell the difference
* is the comment hoisting a link to another site, which has no relevance either to the blog post
So I get one that tries to be “clever” in declaring that it is not spam. But it fails on both accounts. Spam is spam and it goes back in the can.
When I write a blog post about my first effort of doing a daily flickr photo post, does it take a nuclear physicist (not that it should) to see that a comment offering tips on improving my blog search rank is spam-a-palooza? Take the test yourself, and then toss their URL into your blacklist (the URL is re-qritten so a to not give it any google rank points:

Well, Dan-no, this is pure spam in my book. So your IP and your web site link college dash scholarships dot com is blacklisted on my site so it automatically goes into the dung heap out back. I encourage others to do so, an shall follow this up with a report to Google.
Hey Dan! Best wishes yourself, ’cause I plan on never seeing your cruft again. Ciao!
Oh well thought i might just respond on twitter but u don’t follow me. So I’ll have to give you that high five here. WAY TO GO!!!
My blog got the same this-is-not-SPAM SPAM.
It would be nice to see the llama in your previous post give good old Dan the spam-man a quick two kick from behind. If it isn’t comment spam assailing one then there is also the dreaded referrer spam.
spammers need to make a living too ;),
True,
As do con artists, drug dealers, and pickpocket thieves.
All have choices, but perhaps not consciouses.
Boy…this guy made the rounds. He left the exact same message on my site as well. I removed the comment, but after reading your post I’m going to blacklist him too, great suggestion.
