“What? Aren’t you done blogging about Reclaim Open conference? That was so last week!” Nope I have some on the bag and a few more to come.
Nope there’s more, and it’s all about the unpresentation style a bunch of DS106 Daily Create diehards assembled for the Blogathon lunch break on day 1 — LIVE Remix is #4Life: Why we all love the Daily Create and you should too.
This was a congregating of the DS106 True Believers spearheaded by Mark Corbett Wilson and Sarah Honeychurch, including me along with Todd Conaway, Talkytina, Wnbdy Taleo, John Johnston, Kevin “@dogtrax” Hodgson, Paul Bond, Ron Leunissen, and…. um maybe more. There was a sprawling open Google Doc for brainstorming and an email thread with 2 short of 100 messages.
It rpetty much was “let’s share why we love doing DS106 creative stuff” and pretty much Mark volunteered a domain name I could never get the name right https://combobulating.net/ and gave us all access to add stuff. It was as rewildly un planned as you could get. Some folks added pages like examples of Remixers and the ever popular pet pix and Tina’s dangerous perch at the top of the stairs.
Mark has some things going to pull in Mastodon posts from participants, so keep on tagging stuff #WildDS106 as it isThe Grand Official Hashtag of Comflabubobulating.net
There was interest in setting up some DS106 style blog aggregation, so I dusted off my FeedWordPress chops (mostly by looking inside of DS106 where it still runs) to set imt uop with the tags and categories folks were using. I did the thing where any external blog use of tags, categories, labels got converted to tags inside the site but also added a category to group all syndicated posts. We made use of these tags for the top menu to match the top theme, so the “tech” tag could include both syndicated posts and ones authored locally on the site.
The age old issue of FeedWordPress is for themes that make use of Featured images since RSS feeds have no construct. The old plugins we used once for turning the first image in a post to a featured image failed, but I found another one that worked– and BOOM! Tom Woodward jumped in and rolled a custom direct from Programmistan plugin that works like aces — see
It was quite fulfilling to see that the blog syndication machine is still viable even if most folks have given it up for GenAI hoo hah and LMS shenanigans. I was intrigued to poke into the DS106 FeedWordpress to see that it is still pulling in posts (it looks like 80% of the feeds are dead) and right now has 94999 in its bowels. I am committed now to help push that over 100k, for no real reason. I dont think the feed signup works, but if you want to have any blog posts added to dsq06.us, send me some coordinates. I have keys to the machine room.
UPDATE
This post clocked the meter at 94500! I guess I have to write 500 more.
This session was a blast an a half, and part of was scheduling a series of Daily Creates leading up to the presentation:

Hey! Where did that table come from? Do you read my blog? I spelled it out here.
My prize bit was spinning out a history of Daily Creates using dendrochronology, even rolling out an H5P hotspot gizmo.
All these folks truly are DS106 for life. It does baffle me why more folks don’t join in, but shrug, you can only wonder so much when its more fun to create in parallel.
I have to give a huge shout out to my remix pal @dogtrax, Kevin who created a compelling why for doing this creative habit (and not just because he is sporting a CogDog tshirt in the video)
Thanks to all my fellow Comflabubobulators!

@barking And I timed by post tagged #ds106 to be the 99500th blog post syndicated to ds106.us using good old FeedWordPress
