Today’s ds106 daily create: "Take a picture of the oldest thing you own, and the newest thing you own"
tdc.ds106.us/tdc480/
It might not be the oldest thing I own — I do have some pre-Cambrian granite– but this chess medal bears my grandather’s name "David Gottfried" and was awarded to him in 1929 (previously described at www.flickr.com/photos/cogdog/4163089219/)
The reverse side reads "Special Prize
1929
New Jersey State Championship
Hotel La Reine
Bradley Beach
RCC"
RCC was Rice Chess Club- I don’t have much information except my grandmother telling me the stories of her father’s chess prowess. He was a widower with ? 6 kids, and I am marveling at him doing this in the middle of the Depression.
The new thing is my brand new camera! The Olympus TG-2 is fun so far, I took the photo in a mirror.
