Reclaim Hosting (you know they are the best web hosts in the universe) published a new case study on the massive use of WordPress blogs at Baruch College in New York City. Big as in 10,000 sites for 60,000 users over 20 some years.
I have great memories of the years I got the invitation from Mikhail Gershovich to be part of the Schwarz Commuication Symposiums and as well when he and Luke Waltzer started it up, here’s a screenshot I had from 2008:
It’s come a long way for sure as you can read in the full case study featuring project manager Christopher Silsby. I hopped over to https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/ to peek around, you can see the most recently active/created new blogs in the Site Directory. How could I resist not looking at Adrian’s Super Duper Buper Blog?

Hold the CUNY pie! That photo… it’s mine! See, there’s an attribution (good on ya Baruch as by the letter of the CC0 license you do not have to. But doing the minimum is like “C” work, right).
That was a photo I took from the spectacular view of The City in the venue at Baruch College for the 2011 Schwartz Communication Symposium.
I’m clicking around more new blogs at Baruch and seeing my photo. So with some digging around in HTML Source (I am that old) I confirmed that there is a template site that apparently new blogs are given featuring my photo on the front page- see https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/samplecourse/
Of course in time students and other users rightfully change things picking a new theme, sometimes I can see that image still used.
I’m like all over the Baruch Blogs in a Big way, thanks y’all. Through fiddling with the page navigation, I can get to the oldest blogs still living there, ones that are 17+ years old, like Learning, Earning, and Living Well (last post in 2009) and Living in a Concrete Jungle bearing the clssic 2009 style too of WordPress.
Keeping that system alive and going is a hige accompliehment, way to go Baruch. And aww shucks, you got my photo slipped into tons of blogs.
Kudos as well to the folks that started this, Mikhail
and Luke
but more to the thousands of students and teachers who have made good use of the blogging platform at Baruch College. That’s worth a slice of CUNY Pie.
