I didn’t intend today to be poking around in the Internet Archive Wayback Machine nor duct taping together a bookmarklet tool. But that’s where the afternoon took me as I am trying to get over a nasty cold. Cutting first to the end, try this out. If you know where to put them (the bookmarks […]
This sounds entrancing, especially with the spooky like melty text splash screen, heard about just a few clicks ago in 404 Media as “‘Slop Evader’ Lets You Surf the Web Like It’s 2022” taglined “search the internet before AI”. A browser extension for avoiding AI slop. Download it for Chrome or Firefox. This is a search tool that […]
Like Archimedes never said, “Give me a Javascript Bookmarklet short enough and a browser bar on which to place it, and I shall jump over the web world’s paywalls.” I blabbed recently about the extraordinary story and service (archive.today) created by an elusive figure that lets you easily jump the paywall. It includes what i […]
A typical scroll trip through almost any social media stream. People share a link to something from the New York Times. Clunk. Another from the Washington Post. Thud. MIT Technology Review? Splat. Almost anything resembing a newspaper? Clank. Sure you might get one free read a month, but with every annoying frequency, reading most sources […]
In the spirit of Groomian #BlogOrDie, rather than just append some more ideas to my recent post on podcast listening, why not just blog anew? No rules here except the ones I concoct. I recently managed to fix an issue with a water pump I use for our irrigation projects that someone else had put together for me. The fix was round about. I did some web searching, found the culprit was likely a pressure switch, ended up swapping the whole pump out, rewiring it the same, and […]
I can’t use my favorite words “share” and “open” too much, though these days… well, I will skip the droll comments. There, its twice in the title. This post started and is mostly (at least when I start writing, I tend to wander) about sharing [openly] a very nifty service / feature / tool for […]
“Does Alan only blog these days about Creative Commons images?” It. Seems. That. Way. But it’s a break from SPLOT, SPLOT, SPLOT. But look, for this one you get a tool out of the deal, here it is before you have to wade through all my type-ridden, long-winded, whinge tinged verbiage. Because it’s been around […]
I was a bit excited to push out my recent bookmarklet tool experiment. The reception was kind. I was hasty in the naming of it in github tying to google images because as alluded to, I realized I could make a new one for searching Openverse (the updated version of Creative Commons CC Search). I […]
“Welcome to CogDogBlog, your call is important to us. Listen closely as our menu options have recently changed.Press 1 to leave a blog comment. Press 2 to see a random photo. Press 3 to have us create an old school browser bookmarklet…” Hmmm, someone pressed the 3 button. This is an outflow of the recent […]
