50 Ways at UBC
Today I spent at UBC, first an informal meeting with some course designers where Brian Lamb and I did some blog talk, and my bit from Northern Voice Not Cat Diaries / Lets Rip WordPress Apart to Make a Web Site, and an informal romp through Second Life. Then it was over to the Land and Food Systems building where Cyprien Lomas had invited me to a brown bag lunch for another iteration of 50 Web2.0 Ways to Tell a Story that had gone over nicely at Northern Voice. Since at NV I had forgotton to click my record button, I was hoping for a recording, but Duncan at UBC had recorders, video going etc. I told ‘em that Northern Voice was the rehearsal for this session. And in a way, this was a bit smoother. I’ve usually done my presentations as one offs and repeating them is new to [...]
Where in the World is Google Reader?
Where in the World is Google Reader? by cogdogblog posted 28 Feb ’08, 9.24am MST PST on flickr Why has Google Reader been banished from my navigation? Its not even listed on the More Google Products – it seems to not exist. Though it is alive and well at www.google.com/reader Maybe it is a game.
Search ‘n Spell
Search ‘n Spell by cogdogblog posted 26 Feb ’08, 9.16pm MST PST on flickr Google is so damn smart- it took this mangled low light typing and managed to sort out what I was looking for: www.google.ca/search?q=6+mile+pub+ictgoria a pub in Victoria (not "ictogoria") www.sixmilepub.com
Northern Voice Emergency Warning
Northern Voice Emergency Warning by cogdogblog posted 26 Feb ’08, 12.26pm MST PST on flickr The signs at UBC needed some updates One more NV thing- I loved the explicit warnings in the UBC auditorium for Fire and Earthquake, but felt there were not enough warnings for Northern Voice. Moose Thoughts
I Saw the Moose by cogdogblog posted 22 Feb ’08, 3.40pm MST PST on flickr I’m relishing the fantabulous reflection on Northern Voice by Chris Lott and Jennifer Jones and Brian Lamb and Jim Groom and … I am not having much more to pile on to say about Northern Voice beyond a meek “me too”. It was/is an amazing nearly spiritual (and soaked with holy beverages) experience of more than gets wrapped in the word “conference”– that defies “capturing”, so stop trying to find the essence and get your butts to Vancouver in February 2009 and sip the moose kool-aid. That’s my post and I’m sticking to it.
The Moose Has Left The Building
Visual Facilitation art by Nancy White Such a high was the 2008 Northern Voice Conference and how quickly it seems gone. By far, this surpasses by experience her two years ago, my first Moose ride. Its as much for the gathering of creative people that seem to be everywhere in Vancouver, the low overhead personal way a conference is organized (as opposed to the big conferences that leave one cold), but mainly for the camraderie of being with many of my favorite colleagues, so a shoutout to Brian Lamb (tireless organizer and generous party host) and of course Keira (letting us rampage their house); D’Arcy Norman (sheer genius with code and camera); Scott Leslie (amazing array of knowledge of tech, movies, literature, music); Jim Groom (unbridled energy for everything, and a damn fine blues singer); Chris Lott (tireless driver and the most amazing faciliator, and another with a range of [...]
Reverend Jim Belts the EduGlu Blues
EduBloggers JamFest – 55 by D’Arcy Norman posted 24 Feb ’08, 1.33am MST PST on flickr In celebration of the high watermark of Northern Voice, the music was rocking from Brian’s house… with the sounds of Reverend Jim singing about “Got to get some Edugluuuuuuuuuuu.” It was crazy and unrecorded, had to be there. What a blast with Jim, Brian, Scott, Chris, D’Arcy, Mikhail, Keira, and the caped crusader. Each Northern Voice elevates to a new level of collegiality and friendship. Even with this mornings head fog, I am blessed.
Trackback Love
At the Northern Voice Tiki party, Scott Leslie wowed us (well I was wowed) with his rendition of a poem only geeks could grok, called “Trackback Love”. I grabbed some video with my little Canon Powershot- the lighting is awful but the audio is not bad. Trackback Love (3.4 Mb Quicktime 1:42)
Twitter Works!
Twitter Works! by cogdogblog posted 22 Feb ’08, 3.38pm MST PST on flickr Bill Fitzgerald exclaimed this after asking attendees at nrothern voice who had aspirin and Chris Lott tweete back, "me" People keep asking for how to use flickr or what its practical applications are. Bill Fitzgerald can now vouch that he was able to use twitter to take care of his headache (of course, not drinking at the tiki bar might have worked as well, but not nearly as web 2.0 neat)
