Whether the excuse is pandemic or not, it has been a loooooong time since the guitar has been out of the case, even longer since penning an EdTech cover tune.

Without more blathering, here is a bit of crooning by Bob CC-by-an with an open education protest song

This was done hastily as part of last week’s OEGlobal 2021 online conference, where one of the social activities was a talent show. I could not make the live session, but the night before an idea bubbled that I thought I could do quickly as a recorded video.

I have done a cover version of Maggie’s Farm as an Audrey Watters version as Maggie’s Digital Content Farm. It’s fun to do in G with a capo on the third fret (picked up somewhere from a guitar tab) and one of my favorites to do because it’s just fun.

On lunch the next day I said “the heck with it” and after one practice run I said let’s just record. Well, I said that to myself, the dog, and the cats.

Here are the lyrics as they might not be intelligible as sung.

I ain’t gonna teach on Pearson’s farm no more
No, I ain’t gonna teach on Pearson’s farm no more
Well, I wake up in the morning, got a concept I gotta explain
They way the do it is drivin’ me insane
It’s a shame, the way they harvest student’s scores
I ain’t gonna teach on Pearson’s farm no more

I ain’t gonna teach with WebAssign no more
No, I ain’t gonna teach with WebAssign no more
Well, they charge by the month, just to get practice
Or even more to get it unlimited
Then they make ancillaries required at the door
I ain’t gonna teach with WebAssign no more

I ain’t gonna teach with copyrighted stuff no more
No, I ain’t gonna teach with copyrighted stuff no more
Even if I can hide it inside the LMS
I’m going to model idea of openness
There’s so much good content as OER
I ain’t gonna teach with copyrighted stuff no more

Remember the uproar when Bob CC-by-an showed up on stage with an electric textbook?

Yeah, right.

But it was fun to do.
